Which way is the ongoing conflict in the Middle East?

On the one hand, the assassination of Ismail Haniya, the head of the Palestinian independence armed group Hamas, on the other hand, the top commander of Hezbollah, Fouad Shokar, was killed in an attack in Beirut, Lebanon. These two events currently bring the Middle East closer to all-out war than at any time in the past.
