Complete shutdown at CVASU as students demand appointment of VC from within the university
Students of Chattogram Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (CVASU) initiated a complete shutdown of the campus, demanding the appointment of a vice chancellor (VC) from among the university's current professors.
The academic and administrative activities at the university have come to a standstill as students issued a 48-hour ultimatum to the authorities.
In response to the unrest, an emergency meeting was called by CVASU's acting vice chancellor, Professor Dr Md Kamal, at 10:30am on Sunday (6 October).
The meeting, attended by senior faculty members, including the dean of faculty, director of the institute, registrar, head of department, hall provost, director of student welfare, proctor, and other senior teachers, discussed the ongoing crisis and the upcoming agriculture cluster admission test scheduled for 25 October.
The meeting focused on restoring a fair and normal educational environment at the university.
At the meeting, professors voiced their support for the students' demand, emphasising the importance of appointing a new Vice-Chancellor from among the current faculty members.
They expressed optimism that the government would swiftly resolve the matter.
Since Thursday (3 October), students have been holding various protest programmes, including rallies and road blockades, to press for their demand that a senior professor from within CVASU be appointed as VC.
The movement has garnered support from the university's Alumni Association, as well as its teachers, officers, and employees.
