Energy ministry clarifies rumours about gas supply to India
The Ministry of Power, Energy, and Mineral Resources has refuted these allegations, stating that no natural gas has ever been exported from Bangladesh to India via pipelines.
The Ministry of Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Bangladesh has issued a clarification yesterday regarding rumours circulating on social media since 25 August which claimed that Bangladesh had been exporting gas to India through pipelines.
According to these claims, the previous Awami League government had facilitated the export of gas to India, which was halted by the current administration. A video containing these claims has also been widely shared.
The energy ministry refuted these allegations, stating that no natural gas has ever been exported from Bangladesh to India via pipelines.
While liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) is exported to India, its supply has not been disrupted. The video being circulated is reportedly two years old and pertains to an unrelated incident.
The ministry emphasised that the viral claim regarding the "closure of gas pipelines to India's Seven Sisters region" is entirely baseless and politically motivated.
