Coast Guard operation in Mongla uncovers illegal firearms; two suspects detained
On 24 September 2024, a special operation conducted by the Bangladesh Coast Guard (BCG) Base Mongla resulted in the arrest of two individuals and the seizure of illegal firearms and ammunition.
Acting on a tip-off, the operation took place at approximately 14:00 in Ward No. 1, near Mongla Port Municipality in Mongla Upazila, Bagerhat District. During the operation, Jubo League worker Saddam Hossain (35) was apprehended. Following his interrogation, information was gathered that led to a joint operation involving the Bangladesh Coast Guard and the Bangladesh Navy.
The search resulted in the recovery of one illegal foreign shotgun, one illegal foreign single-barrel rifle, 38 rounds of cartridges, 2 blank rounds, and BDT 100,000 in cash. Additionally, Saddam's elder brother, Firoz Ahmed (37), was also arrested during the operation.
Lieutenant Md. Siam-ul-Haq, media officer of the Coast Guard Headquarters, confirmed that all seized weapons, ammunition, and the detained individuals were handed over to Mongla Police Station for further legal action.
