Dismissed upazila vice chairmen stage protest demanding reinstatement
After the demonstration, they brought out a procession and marched towards Shikkha Bhaban
The upazila vice chairmen who were dismissed following the formation of the interim government have staged protests demanding their reinstatement in office.
Under the banner of "Bangladesh Upazila Vice Chairmen and Women Vice Chairmen Forum", they formed a human chain in front of the National Press Club in Dhaka today (2 September).
After the demonstration, they brought out a procession and marched towards Shikkha Bhaban.
"We believe the chief adviser will accept our demand," said Farida Parveen Shyamoli, former female vice chairman of Sonargaon upazila in Narayanganj.
Sohel Rana, former vice chairman of Ranisankail upazila in Thakurgaon, echoed the sentiment and said, "We want to get reinstated to our positions. This is our fair demand. Vice chairmen are essential for serving the grassroots people.
"While upazila chairmen may be elected by political parties, 80% of the vice chairmen were elected independently. We appeal to the interim government to reinstate us so that we can continue serving the people."
